It should be a pretty quiet Sunday afternoon at Gulfstream Park with no stakes races on tap. The plan is to play a Pick 3 (races 5 through 7) with a single in the middle leg. RACE 5 The opening leg is a conditioned claimer with a potentially vulnerable favorite. MR. MAGIC (9) continues to plunge down the class ladder, and it appears that Todd Pletcher can't wait to get rid of him. A $140,000 yearling now being offered for $16,000, Mr. Magic recently failed to hit the board as the even-money favorite. If it was any other trainer, I'd strongly consider pitching Mr. Magic completely. But, it's Pletcher at Gulfstream and this field isn't much. I will use Mr. Magic, but must have other coverage. I'm hoping that SCHWEETS (10) is the right one to upset Mr. Magic. Last month, in a similar spot, Schweets came with a four-wide bid on the final turn and battled all the way down to the wire with a 2-1 shot. In just missing by a neck, Schweets finished ahead of a couple of today's foes as well as stablemate Imperial Warrior, a gelding that has since won two races with Beyers of 70 and 74. Schweets is sharp and should provide value. I'll also use CAVITY (1), who drops in class with speed and a good inside post. RACE 6 My key horse is BAHAMA KITTEN (1) in the sixth race, a maiden claiming event on the turf. Last time out, she dropped to this class level for the first time and came through with a good effort. Five wide through the final turn and into the stretch, Bahama Kitten was beaten only a nose. The one true concern is race flow. Bahama Kitten hasn't shown much speed and there doesn't appear to be a ton of pace in this race. Hopefully, Saez can save ground with Bahama Kitten for the first half-mile or so before coming with a strong run late. RACE 7 In the final leg of the wager, I'm against SAWYER (6), who takes a monumental class drop for her first start since May. At this time last year, Sawyer was beating 'N2X' foes. Now, trainer Jane Cibelli offers her for a mere $25,000. If the Sawyer of 2015/2016 shows up, she wins. But, something doesn't smell right here. I'll try to beat her with better-priced alternatives. I think SWIMMING (12) has a chance at a very nice price (20-1 morning line).  In his first start for trainer Chuck Simon, Swimming prompted the pace before coming up a bit short. That was his first race following a layoff line and he has worked swiftly since. It's worth noting that Swimming won second off the bench in 2015. This might be a nice pattern for him and he can sit a stalking trip while in the clear. I'll also use VAUNTING (1), a first-time import for Chad Brown who needn't be a superstar to win this race; SUNRISE KITTY (5), who stretches out off the claim and should be forwardly placed after exiting a swift $16,000 claimer; and FIRST GIRL (11), who showed the way into the stretch off the layoff in her first start of the meet. The caveman ticket looks like this: Race 5 - 1,9,10 Race 6 - 1 Race 7 - 1,5,11,12 Good luck!
