Sunday's card at Belmont Park  features several stakes races, but the recent rainy weather in New York leaves us with a “good” main track and a yielding turf course. Because of the wet track conditions, I'm going to play very lightly with a few win bets tossed among some multiple-race wagers.  Race 5 - Miss Grillo Stakes COASTED (2) has been extremely impressive in two turf starts for trainer Leah Gyarmati, but will have to deal with a soggy turf course and some pretty tough competition from Europe.  Of the invaders, I prefer CREATE A DREAM (7), who stretches out for the first time after finishing a close fourth in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting. Create a Dream showed good speed in the Albany, but it appeared that Frankie Dettori didn't want to go on with it early, and Create a Dream ended up as the lone horse to race near the  side rail nearest the stands. She stayed on evenly to be beaten a length by future Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Brave Anna. The third-finisher has come back to win two races, including the Group 2 Lowther Stakes.  Create a Dream adds Lasix and removes blinkers (the blinker move a late equipment change not listed in the past performances) in her first start for trainer Chad Brown. She won her debut over "good to soft" ground and can be forwardly placed given an alert beginning. I'll bet her to win at 5-2 odds or greater and will use her in single- and multiple-race exotics with the aforementioned Coasted and RYMSKA (5), a minor stakes winner in France.  Race 8 - Temperence Hill Invitational  Not only must horseplayers deal with a wet track, but the 13-furlong distance of the Temperance Hill is a great unknown for several of the entrants. MELMICH (7) is one of the better handicap horses in Canada. He won't have an issue with the trip, but this will be his first start on dirt and there's a question about whether he can successfully transfer his synthetic form to this surface, especially if it’s wet.  Melmich is the horse to beat, but I prefer BACCELO (3), a 6-year-old who has regained his best form over the last four starts. Claimed by David Jacobson for $62,500 out of a 99-Beyer victory at Santa Anita, Baccelo has won two of three races for his new trainer, including the Grade 3 Philip Iselin at Monmouth. Most recently, Baccelo paired up his career-best Beyer with a third-place finish behind heavily favored Comfort in the Seattle Slew Stakes at Belmont.  Baccelo stretches out in distance, but he wasn't embarrassed when fourth in a  Group 1 at 12 furlongs on turf in Brazil way back when. He should be forward and might last if Irad Ortiz can give him a breather entering the backstretch.  I'll bet Baccelo to win at 3-1 odds or greater.  Race 6 - Joseph A. Gimma Stakes ABOUT THAT BASE (7) took advantage of a muddy track and a weak field to post a maiden victory in an off-the-turf heat at Saratoga. While the overall form of that race must be questioned, the filly is the only runner in the race with prior winning experience at seven furlongs. It also appears that she has enough speed to stay within range of an expected solid-to-fast pace.  According to DRF Formulator, trainer Todd Pletcher is 6 for 13 (46 percent) with a $3.91 return on investment over the past five years with juvenile last-out maiden winners returning from 31 to 60-day layoffs in dirt sprints. I'll bet About That Base to win at 4-1 odds or higher and will use her in exotics with turf-to-dirt runner PAZ THE BOURBON (12) and the speedy RIBBONITE (13).  While MIRAI (5) figures to take the lion's share of the tote action in the third race, the Bertram Bongard Stakes, HAUL ANCHOR (4) has run just as fast, if not faster, in his three prior starts. Haul Anchor might try to take the race to Mirai out of the gate and is worth utilizing in the multiples. Good luck!
