Happy Pegasus World Cup Saturday! Here are some price horses to consider for your exotic wagers this afternoon at Gulfstream: Pegasus World Cup Turf - Race 11 (#7 - Admission Office - 30-1 Morning Line) Admission Office is one of the unluckiest horses in the country, mostly due to his running style. A true one-run closer, he often races at the back of the pack where he is at the mercy of traffic issues and poor pace scenarios. Here are some of his trip notes I've inputted into Formulator:   Dixie Stakes:  "Last on rail, eased to split horses then altered back inside, finished well on rail, good gallop-out" Wise Dan Stakes:  "Bumped start, two path near back, near back by self, inside bid, altered course outside, finished well" River City Handicap:  "Washed out, stalked three wide at back, four-wide bid far turn, five-wide stretch, evenly outside" (half-mile in 50.22, three-quarters 1:15.48) Fort Lauderdale Stakes:  "Two path at back, far back, widest stretch, strong rally" (half-mile in 49.22) Admission Office has run well in all of those starts without winning and it's possible he'll have the same pace and trip problems in this year's Pegasus World Cup Turf, a race that doesn't feature a true front-runner. He does have some talent, however, is lightly raced enough that we may not have seen his best just yet, and will be a square price on the tote board. La Prevoyante Stakes - Race 8 (#7 - War Cabinet - 15-1 Morning Line) Shug McGaughey-trained horses often improve with age and distance and War Cabinet might be rounding into form as she makes her third start of the form cycle and first as a 5-year-old. My belief is that she is way more effective on firm going than on wet grass and she hasn't had an opportunity to race on that kind of turf in a long, long time. Last time out, in the Via Borghese Stakes at Gulfstream, she raced on "good" ground, was last on the rail, split horses in traffic on the far turn, altered course sharply to the rail and finished with mild interest at a distance that might have been a bit short for her. Today, she gets a chance to run on firm ground while stretching out in distance. Some of the shorter-priced horses in this race have flaws: #2 - Simply Beautiful (1 for 15 lifetime) #6 - Lady Paname (hasn't raced since November 24, 2018) #10 - Get Explicit (hasn't won since October 5, 2018) War Cabinet will need to take a step forward this afternoon, but she'll be a price, is coming off a less-than-ideal trip and is in the capable hands of a top trainer. Fred W. Hooper Stakes - Race 7 - (#6 - Seven Trumpets - 6-1) Seven Trumpets has never won outside of Kentucky, but he's taken his game to other venues, is graded-placed at Parx, Saratoga and Belmont, and he looked pretty good in his most recent sprint score at Churchill Downs. He got right up on the pace, dusted a longshot pacesetter, took outside pressure on the turn, then had plenty left to hold off a solid closer in Do Share. While today's one-mile distance might not be his best, Seven Trumpets has won over the trip in the past and can get a decent enough trip chasing a fast pace while outside and in the clear under Frankie Dettori. He's been an in-and-outer for most of his career so make sure you get the value posted on the morning line at the very least. As for the World Cup, I prefer Tax, who can work out a good midpack trip while saving valuable ground. His most recent race at Aqueduct was a nice effort as he made a prolonged run to get on even terms with the quality winner only to be outfinished in the final furlong. The scratches of the big names in this race really help his chances.
